Both Zip Clock and TimeForge offer the basic solutions for a time and attendance management application such as clocking in and out, configurations to ensure labor requirements, and a mobile app. While these are essential to keeping track of employee time, the usability and effectiveness of the software is what sets Zip Clock apart from Time Forge.

The web and mobile dashboard on Zip Clock presents insightful and easy to understand information that allows both managers and employees to actively manage their time. TimeForge offers two time clocks, a larger touchscreen LCD display and a smaller display screen with audio visual indications for acceptance and rejections of fingerprints. There is no information or visual warning notifying of upcoming labor law violations. In fact, break enforcement is only available when paired with the TimeForge scheduling software, which is separate from the time clock. Zip Clock has the option for managers and supervisors to send notifications and reminders to all employee types.

Zip Clock’s software visibility increases transparency and is best illustrated in its Shift Management screen. This displays all employees and lists their weekly hours, projected hours, overtime, ACA violations, and phone numbers. Clicking on an employee’s name shows their remaining scheduled hours for the week, allowing management to remain in control of their weekly schedules. In addition, Shift Management also keeps track of employee hours while they are on the clock and gives the option for management to suggest breaks and clout outs when the employee is nearing violations.

Although TimeForge lets managers set grace periods and schedule staff breaks to ensure compliance with local labor requirements, they have no way of showing their employees where they stand. There are no visuals as to when they’re allowed to clock in and within what time frame. Zip Clock can track actual break times and will tell users information in real-time whereas TimeForge will only tell users whether or not their punch was accepted.

This can be made easy with Zip Clock’s Punch Management. Managers can instantly access attendance information through Zip Clock’s system online in real time from any location. They will be able to see the status of their employees whether they are running late, clocked in, or putting in overtime all from their phone or computer. This allows managers and employees to update or make edits to their punches when they can. TimeForge only allows managers to view the information, but cannot take action for them.

TimeForge is a great tool for a small business not looking for anything too complicated. They offer simplistic sales monitoring, attendance verification, and schedule modifications that can be done from anywhere using their cloud-based software. However, Zip Clock caters to businesses of all sizes, small or large. Most employees do not come all at once, some early and some late. With Zip Clock, employees are accountable for their own time and managers can be involved in the case that someone forgets.

Zip Clock’s Punch Management lets managers easily add time punches for their employees when they forget to clock in or out for a shift. If enabled as an option, employees can also add their own punches from the mobile app and have it acknowledged and approved by managers. Punches made outside of normal, auto-approved conditions will need approval from managers as well. Managers no longer need to make a mental or physical note to make changes later, it can be done instantly through the mobile app or desktop. When employees make edits to their time punches, authorization is required from management so that all punches are approved and audited before being sent to payroll.
